Unlike our previous two group projects, our final project on culture and creativity involves creating a video. This video will be recorded and edited using Adobe Premier Pro Creative Cloud. Any research done on our chosen topic will need to be viewable within this video. The video will have to be no more than 5 minutes in length, feature the TU Dublin and Creative Digital Media logo in the end credits of the project. As part of our last assignment we had the option of working with individuals outside of our own group. I thought this was an interesting idea but in hindsight I didn't realise how difficult this was going to be.
I was approached by one of my fellow classmates named Claire about working on this project together. At this stage I didn't really have any ideas of what topic to choose from, but I was leaning towards the Digital Journalism. It was something I always had an interest in, and I wanted to learn more about it. I personally felt by covering this topic I would be able to highlight some of the negative aspects of cancel culture in this digital age. My goal for this project was to bring awareness of the dangers of cancel culture, and how accusations can not only be damaging to a person’s professional career but also their mental health.
In one of our labs for the introduction to digital media, Claire and I decided to approach our class lecturer for advice on our topic of cancel culture. This was a great opportunity as it allowed us to further develop our ideas and realistically see what we could get done within the time frame of the project. Our lecturer name was Shaun, he recommended using a program called Timeline JS because it would be a perfect way of presenting our research in a video format. Doing this during Thursday's class was a great benefit as it really helped me plan out my initial ideas and discuss them with my fellow group member Claire. Thanks to this early development we were able to plan out most of our initial ideas prior to finding a third person for our group.
It wasn't until that Friday that we were able to confirm a third member using Slack. Prior to this point we were afraid that we would end up being the only two in our group working on this project. This was a scary thought as we felt a little bit under pressured with the amount of work, we would have to get done within such a small-time frame. This meant we would have to limit the amount of time we would have to spend on a topic when developing our concepts and doing our research. Luckily, we were able to find a third member by the name of Joseph Dolan who was also stuck in the same position as us.
During the process of developing my animated gif I decided to use a website called Unsplash for my reference photography images. I personally felt this would add a unique and professional look to what I was hoping to animate. For this purpose of making animated gif I decided to use a software called Photomirage. I have been wanting to experiment with this software for some time but have never gotten the opportunity to really explore its unique features. Previously I would have always used Adobe Creative Cloud for enhancing and developing my project ideas. However, I wanted to learn something new, so I decided to use this software instead as I wanted to challenge myself. The software was very easy to use and had a lot of unique features like Adobe products. One of the things that I found a little bit unusual was the way it allows the user to simply drag and drop effects onto your image. This was interesting as you didn't have to use a layering system to setup your effects. Co...
